For the purposes of this forum, each new character will have a new account associated with that character. With the new account created, submit a new thread in this section with the following title: "Character Name [Year/Rank/Color/Division]" for example: "James Alton Martin [9/II/W/R/E]". For the character's name, put their full name: first, middle, last, as is applicable; if there are double first names or double last name, put those as well. For the character's year, that is the year of schooling they are in; year 9 students are usually 13 or 14 years old; this school only accepts students for the years of 7 to 12. For the character's rank, this is the ranking or general skill level the character has with their element(s); the ranks range from I the lowest to V the highest; depending on the skill level, year 9 students are usually rank III. For the character's color, that is what elemental affinity the character has: (w)hite, (r)ed, (o)range, (y)ellow, blac(k), (g)reen, (b)lue, (v)iolet; if the character has a secondary affinity, add a "/" then put in the secondary color. For the character's division, this is the type of elemental control the character can use more naturally; there is (e)xternal and (i)nternal; if the character is adept at both put the one that is dominant followed by the recessive: EI or IE.
The below categories are required when creating a new character; however, if there are categories that are not here that you think would expand upon who your character is, you can add more than what is required below.
Name: The character's full name. Use all the names the character goes by, as well. First name, middle name, last name. If the character has a double first name, use that and state that it is a double first name; same with the last name. If the character doesn't have a middle name, etc., then be sure to explain that. If the character has a nick name or multiple, be sure to write those following the full legal name in quotes.
Pronunciation: So that all other members on the board can know how to pronounce your characters on this forum, write out how you pronounce the character's name (include all names), especially if the character has an exotic name. You can either write the name out using commonly used words as a base for the pronunciation or you can use official characters used for the purpose of pronunciation.
Year: This academy only accepts students in the grades of 7 to 9 (middle education level) and 10 to 12 (high education level)
Rank: Rank differs from year because this details the general skill level of the student, the rank is determined by the grade of the student: grade 1 to 10 is rank I; grade 11 to 100 is rank II; grade 101 to 1,000 is rank III; grade 1,001 to 10,000 is rank IV; grade 10,001 to 100,000 is rank V. There is no rank greater than V. People who are rank 0 have no ability nor do they have the potential to learn how to use elemental abilities, and thus they wouldn't be admitted to the academy.
Grade: Grade determines how skilled the character is at using their elements. It is determined by an arbitrary number that is generated after the student is thoroughly tested through semi-annual examinations of their ability performance. Grade is the accumulation of the characters total grade for each element.
Department: Does the character have better internal or external control of their element? If the control is almost even, or close enough, then put both (with a dividing slash) such that the dominant control is first, such as: internal/external or external/internal.
Style: Is the character more of a control type or an emitter type? A control type is someone who is more skilled at manipulating their elemental energies into making and developing new abilities; control types also have stronger resistance to mental strain as it requires less effort to manipulate their energy; for characters who are are more skilled at external elemental control, being a control type is preferable. A emitter type is someone who is more skilled at taking in and using raw energy; emitter types also have stronger resistance to physical exhaustion as they can use less of their own energy by overcompensating by using more external energies; for characters who are more skilled at internal elemental control being a emitter type is preferable.
Affinity: What element(s) do(es) the character have highest affinity to. Affinity never changes under natural circumstances. Once a person's affinity is determined through examination (at about 5 or 6 years of age), that is the affinity they stick with life. The only thing that could possibly change the character's affinity is through genetic experimentation (which has been done in the history of this world). The affinities are: white/light, red/fire, orange/wind, yellow/plasma, black/shadow, green/wood, blue/water and violet/earth. A character can have multiple affinities (up to two) with a primary and secondary affinity, but for characters with more than one affinity affinity, their ability at using their primary element will be innately weaker than a character's with only one elemental affinity (because their control is split multiple ways). Under rare circumstance, a character can be considered to have a tertiary affinity, but this only applies to students whose "third" elemental affinity is classified as part of the internal control variety and is at least 15% of the characters total affinity count.
Age: How old is the character?
Gender: Is the character male or female?
Height: How tall is the character?
Weight: how much does the character weigh?
Appearance: Write a detailed description of what the character looks like. Physical description: eye color, hair color/style, skin complexion, body markings, body accessories, other facial features, etc. It doesn't have to be long, one or two paragraphs worth of description should be adequate.
Personality: For the character's personality, you can use the general personality descriptions on the Elemental Properties and Character Traits [Info] thread as a guideline for how you can make the character's personality. Be creative, however. There is no limit to how long this should be, but at least a couple paragraphs should be adequate to get across an idea of who the character is.
Strengths: What are the things the character is good at or is a positive trait?
Weaknesses: What are the things the character has difficulty doing or is a negative trait?
Reason for attending the academy: Something motivated the character enough to advance themselves beyond the typical or average, and something drew them to this academy. What was it what does the character expect to get out of attending the academy?
Preferential style of combat: Just because people could fight the same way, doesn't mean they should or do. Each person has their own manner of fighting whether it be offensive, defensive or support; they are a lone wolf or fight closely alongside their allies; what kind of weapons they use and how. What skills and abilities have the character developed. This ties heavily with the characters elemental affinity and what department they focus on with which element, and also to a certain extent the characters personality.
History: What kind of story does the character have prior to coming to the academy, or if they have been at the academy for a while now, already, what have they done so far or what have they experienced since they have been here? Who is their family (or who they grew up with) and what role have they served, and what kind of impact has it had on the character. The history does not have to be complete for the application to be accepted, but you should modify and add to this section throughout the course of role-playing the character to flush them out further and so other members have more material to work with when working with the character.
